Padar Island is an icon of Komodo National Park. From its peak, you can see spectacular views of three bays, each with different colored sand: white, black, and pink. However, capturing this beauty on camera requires planning.
The best time is at dawn. Trekking starts around 05:00 AM from the beach. Make sure you bring a wide-angle lens to capture the vast panorama of the bays. As the sun begins to appear behind the hills of Flores, use the 'Golden Hour' technique to get warm colors and dramatic shadows on the contours of Padar hills.
Use a tripod if possible, or leverage the image stabilization features on your phone. Don't just focus on the broad landscape; try photographing detailed textures of savannah grass or your fellow travelers' expressions seeing this beauty. At Behike, we often help guests arrange departure times to arrive at the peak just before sunrise.
